The Aquilion 64 is a multislice CT scanner capable of
simultaneously acquiring 64 0.5mm-thick slices in a 0.5-second rotation.
The Aquilion 64 is ideal for brain and whole-body imaging, including cardiac and vascular imaging, and is particularly suitable for applications requiring large volumes of
data in a single breath-hold, such as multiple trauma, pulmonary embolism,
and oncology.

The Aquilion system's gantry is directly driven by an electric motor. Its beltless design
ensures silent, vibration-free rotation at very high speeds. The uniquely shaped gantry
incorporates key components of multislice technology: a Megacool 7.5 MHU X-ray tube
with high cooling rates, combined with a 60 kW generator and a multi-row,
high-performance Quantum detector with over 57,000 channels.

The expanded scanning range allows for examination of a larger anatomical area in
a shorter time, ensuring the efficient use of the 64-slice system in cardiovascular and
trauma imaging.

Aquilion systems, thanks to their unique Quantum detector system, have been capable
of acquiring truly isotropic voxels since their introduction in 1999.
The Aquilion 64 creates a volume of 64 x 0.5 mm slices per rotation with an
effective voxel resolution of 0.35 mm for visualizing the finest details and
complex anatomical structures, such as coronary arteries.
The Aquilion 64 explores large anatomical areas without sacrificing visualization of
the finest details.

Because large volumes are examined in a single scan, the X-ray angle is
constantly changing. To maintain accuracy throughout the entire scan,
Aquilion 64 uses Toshiba's patented, advanced TCOT reconstruction algorithm,
modified for 64-slice acquisition.

Acquiring 64 high-resolution slices with isotropic voxels creates enormous data sets.
Fast, accurate transfer of information from the detector to the data processing system is
vital, and because the gantry is constantly rotating, data must be transmitted without
physical contact.

Routine studies using 0.5-mm isotropic voxels can generate thousands of axial images
per study. Aquilion 64 takes volumetric imaging to new heights, creating volume data
sets that are not limited to the axial plane. Instant multiplanar reconstruction viewing
and high-speed image reconstruction are possible with a simple data management
interface. Intelligent zoom and mouse-based navigation provide easy navigation through
the data volume, enabling accurate diagnosis in minimal time.
Automated study protocols allow users to create automated scan plans,
including multiplanar reconstructions and multiple data distribution paths for
the entire study.

The Aquilion 64's advanced technologies maximize dose efficiency, thanks to an
X-ray tube with reduced out-of-focus beams and a detector that delivers the
highest quality images with minimal dose. To further enhance patient safety,
the Aquilion 64 features several additional features, such as Configurable Filters,
Quantum Denoising Software, SureExposure, and Boost3D,
to ensure efficient examinations with minimal dose.

Real-time CT fluoroscopy is included in comprehensive real-time CT software packages.
SureScan and SureStart are standard on the Aquilion system.
These features provide real-time display of 12 images per second for helical scanning.
SureScan allows data acquisition to be stopped immediately once the desired region of
interest is reached, reducing patient dose and saving time. SureStart ensures optimal
contrast acquisition for contrast-enhanced exams by automatically starting the
scan once a preset Hounsfield density value is reached in the region of
interest configured for low mAs real-time data acquisition.
