One of the most relevant break-throughs in CT technology in
the past decade is the development of Aspire CI
(Continuous Imaging). It is remarkable how this
innovation opens doors to many new applications in
Computer Tomography. Aspire CI technology offers
instantaneous visualisation of acquired images.
Real-Time Helical CT, live observation During routine
examinations, the radiologist is able to exactly follow the
scanning process in real time as the operator is performing the
scan. Immediately the radiologist concludes that the region of
interest is fully covered, the operator can be requested to
terminate the scan sequence. This can save valuable time that
otherwise would be needed to accommodate image
reconstructions. Examination times are reduced and
patient throughput increased as
instantaneous visualisation eliminates the need to
scan additional slices.
CT Fluoroscopy, for precision One of the premier applications of
Aspire CI is CT-Fluoroscopy. In various interventional procedures, such as biopsies of thoracic lesions or
aspirations of intra-cranial hematoma's, this technique has
proven its clinical applicability. Interventions of
structures adjacent to critical tissue, such as the myocardium,
have been performed with Aspire CI. The physician is able to
observe precisely both the needle and the cardiac wall motion,
reducing to a minimum the risk of erroneous punctures.
Such procedures are not considered possible with
conventional CT guided interventions,
as the risk would be significant.
SureStart, always right Another direct benefit of
Aspire CI technology is "SureStart".
This technique measures the contrast flow using a
low dose scanning mode. The optimal moment to
commence the scanning sequence is indicated.
Scanning is initiated automatically by the CT scanner or
manually by the operator, coached by the radiologist.
Clinical evaluation has demonstrated that this
technique substantially increases control over studies of
small vascular structures such as in the brain.
