Technical description
The film roll holder includes an automatic film feed system driven by
a frequency converter and is designed for lifting film rolls (motor-driven swivel arms).
It has two film roll holders, storage 1 and storage 2. In storage 2, the clamping shaft is
detected by a proximity switch. As long as this switch is occupied, storage 2 is
the active film removal. If the proximity switch is not occupied, storage 1 is
the active film removal.
The film roll holder unwinds the film supply of a thermoforming machine from
the film roll into the film supply tray without tension.
It is connected to the forming machine via Profibus and is equipped for
continuous unwinding.

The film roll holder is equipped with:
• two pneumatic brakes for the film roll in storage 1 and 2
• Film shortage detection with automatic switching between storage 1 and 2
• motor-driven lifting device for the film rolls
• variable speed, motorized film pull-off
• detection of the end of the film
• film cutting device with clamping device for cutting the film webs
• ultrasonic hand welding device for welding the film webs

Automatic film feed
The film roll holder uses a query routine to automatically detect whether it
can communicate with the forming machine via the Profibus.
Continuous operation
This operating mode is intended exclusively for use with
an ILLIG thermoforming machine.
The thermoforming machine must be equipped with the ILLIG standard
Profibus interface and the corresponding programs.
Without the Profibus interface, the film roll holder automatically switches to
“Stop & Go” mode.
In continuous operation, the film feed runs uniformly without interruption at a
feed speed adapted to the film requirement, with constant cyclic film removal by
the forming machine (optional VHW).
The film feed speed is controlled by the film throughput (cycle time and feed rate)
transmitted by the forming machine (optional VHW) via the Profibus interface and
the film slack measured by the two light barriers in the storage tray.
