The King KR-87 System is widely regarded as one of the best ADFs you can buy. This Silver Crown ADF System matches the rest of your King radio stack in both performance and appearance. This package includes everything that is needed to add this quality ADF to your aircraft.

There are three main components to this system:

King KR-87 ADF Receiver

The KR-87's job is to tune in distant NDB stations. One innovation that improves this performance is King's Coherent Detection circuitry. The KR-87 uses this circuitry for better range, a cleaner signal, and less interference.

This slim-line radio has King's easy-to-read, bright gas-discharge display. This display shows simultaneous active and standby ADF frequencies.

The King KR-87 also features:

Push button frequency flip-flop
Self-dimming display for low light operation
Internal timer for flight time and elapsed time
RMI outputs for use with a KI-229 or KNI-582 RMI
TSO'd

Slaved King KI-227 ADF Indicator

The upgraded "-01" version of the KI-227 (shown here) may be combined with a KCS-55A HSI System. In this configuration, the compass card can be slaved to always show your current heading.

The KI-227 features:

Single ADF Needle
Glass lens

King KA-44B ADF Antenna

The KA-44B works as both a loop antenna and a sense antenna. There is no need to hang an unattractive and drag-producing long wire antenna on your aircraft. The KR-87 System is also available with a KA-44 antenna. This antenna is identical in function, but its blade shape and belly location make the KA-44B a better choice for most installations.

If you have a KCS-55A with bootstrap heading output, or plan to add one, this version of the KR-87 ADF System (with the slaved -01 version of the KI-227 ADF Indicator) is the better choice. However, if you do not have a KCS-55A with bootstrap heading output, the regular KR-87 ADF System (with the non-slaved -00 version of the KI-227) makes more sense. Due to the gearing needed for slaved operation, the compass card of the KI-227-01 responds very slowly to manual turning of the knob.
